Job Description
The Director of Music for the Mother Church of the Diocese of Spokane is a practicing Catholic with the professional skills and educational background necessary to fulfill this ministry as outlined below. This is a 25 hour per week salaried position with medical, dental, and retirement benefits according to diocesan policy. Total compensation is dependent upon experience and qualifications.
Under the direction of the Rector of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes, the Director of Music shall perform the following duties:
1. Prepare and plan music selections for all Cathedral liturgies throughout the liturgical year.
2. Provide music ministry staffing at all weekend Masses, special daily Masses, and other liturgical events.
3. Serve as a member of the Cathedral Pastoral Staff by attending weekly coordination meetings and supporting the ministry of the other staff members.
4. Serve as the Cantor for two Sunday Masses.
5. Recruit, rehearse, conduct and manage the Cathedral Choir. The choir sings at one Mass each Sunday (usually the 11:00 a.m.) from mid-September through mid-June.
6. Manage all Cathedral music ministry staff including recruiting, hiring, firing, budgeting, payroll submissions, etc. The music ministry staff includes cantors, organists, instrumentalists and choir section leaders.
7. Coordinate music staffing for all Cathedral funerals and weddings.
8. Manage and execute the Cathedral Concert Series.
9. Collaborate with the Pastoral Associate, Master of Ceremonies and appropriate diocesan personnel regarding coordination of all Episcopal ceremonies and diocesan liturgical events held at the Cathedral.
10. Coordinate music staffing for other musical events which further the mission of the Cathedral to the wider Spokane community such as the Bloomsday Choir.
