The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is an approach to catechesis through which the youngest children may build a deep, life-long relationship with Christ and His Church. Originating in Rome in the 1950s, CGS uses a rich Montessori approach to engage children with age-appropriate, tactile materials, rooted in Sacred Scripture and the Sacred Liturgy.
In a prepared environment called an atrium, children encounter the love of the Good Shepherd through works suited to their developmental needs. The atrium is a quiet and peaceful place where young children can pray and ponder upon the Mysteries of the Catholic Faith.
The Cathedral's St. Philomena Atrium is located in the upstairs level of O'Connor Hall and offers Level I (ages 3-6), Level II (ages 6-9), and Level III (ages 9-12) CGS environments.
