This year the Feast of Corpus Christi will be observed on Sunday, May 29th. Since the 13th century, the Feast of Corpus Christi has been celebrated in honor of the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist – body, blood, soul, and divinity.
Our Cathedral Parish has a long history of observing Corpus Christi in an especially festive way. Our “Corpus Christi Festival” involves filling the church with fresh flowers in honor of the Most Blessed Sacrament and remembering our deceased loved ones at Mass. Moreover, the Festival includes homilies on the Eucharist, a parish dinner, benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, a children’s carnival, BBQ, and beer garden. The idea is to allow the Eucharist to strengthen our communion with Christ as well as the bonds of friendship which unite our Cathedral Family.
On May 5th we mailed a flyer with more details as well as an envelope for making an offering and listing the names of your loved ones who have died. Please return your envelope through the regular Sunday collection by May 22nd so that we can include names in the Memorial Program. Additional envelopes can be found in the pews of the church or from the Cathedral Office.
I look forward to the ways in which the Cathedral Corpus Christi Festival will continue to strengthen our family of faith and deepen our love for the Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament.
Sincerely Yours in Christ,
